Chewie the Dog needs a home
Chewie does fine around older, respectful children. Plus, she doesn't mind other dogs, as long as they don't get in her face of course! But honestly, who likes other dogs in their face, pestering them? Can you really blame a girl?
Chewie's coat is as soft as silk and she LOVES to be petted on her head, back, and belly! She is totally house trained and does not need to be crated. It takes Chewie a while to warm up to people and to feel completely comfortable in a new place, but she is sweet as can be and is grateful for any attention she gets (expect a tail wag anytime you look in her direction!). Chewie would be a GREAT first dog or even a FURTABULOUS addition to your existing pack!
Chewie needs a family with the time, patience, and means to care for her special needs. Recent blood work has shown that Chewie has elevated liver and gall bladder enzymes. She is on medication (Denamarin- $65 per month) to help with the symptoms (diarrhea and vomiting), but they still come around sometimes (poor girl!), and have become increasingly more frequent. Chewie also needs to be on a prescription, low-residue diet (about $55 per month) to help with her symptoms . . . No treats besides fresh, boiled chicken, please!
Within the past few months, Chewie’s ability to get up and stand on her own has declined. Her back legs give out from underneath her, and sometimes she cannot get back up on her own. As such, Chewie would do best in a home with no (or only one or two) stairs, and with carpet (or rugs, to help her get up on her own if her legs give out). Ideally, Chewie’s new family would be able to get her the ultrasound and additional blood work she needs to see what’s causing the elevated enzymes in her liver and gall bladder.
If you can provide the attention and medical care that Chewie needs, she will repay you ten fold with tail wags and unwavering loyalty! All she requires to make her happy are a caring, patient family and a soft bed to nap in. Chewie is an awesome dog and any family would be lucky to have her!
She recently started growling at cats in the neighborhood on her walks, but still ignores some of them. She may be picky about feline roommates.
